Areas of Study
Undergraduate music degrees are offered in both music education and
music performance. Students may choose to study with talented artist-faculty
in brass, woodwind, percussion, string, keyboard, or voice. The Bachelor
of Music degree in performance may be completed with composition or music technology as
a major as well. An innovative curriculum in fundamental music skills
provides a solid foundation in music theory, history and analysis. The
music education track leads to certification in K-12 instrumental and
vocal music. The performance track includes other professional music
courses as well as ample opportunities to perform as a soloist, in chamber
groups, or in a variety of other small and large ensembles.
The Master of Music degree is divided into two tracks: Music Education
and Music Performance. The Music Performance track is a thirty-hour
program emphasizing performance and applied music. Opportunities for
internships and performances with local professional organizations are
enjoyed by UNO graduate students. The Music Education track is available
in both a thirty-hour thesis and a thirty-six hour non-thesis option.
Both options emphasize pedagogy and practical applications of musical
skills and research for teachers at all levels.
