In
addition to her active performance schedule, Christine is the Roy
Seaman Piccolo Artist for Gemstone
Musical Instruments and in that role has presented piccolo clinics
and lecture-recitals at state music conferences and flute festivals
across the U.S., including AL, AR, CA, CO, MN, NE, NM, NY, SC, TN, TX,
VT, and D.C. In 2006, she was invited to lecture on the evolution of
the solo piccolo in the 19th c. at the International
Wind Music History Symposium and presented the same lecture
at the American
Musical Instrument Society International Conference at Yale
University in June 2007. Her pedagogical articles and columns have been
published in Flute
Talk, the Flutist Quarterly, Flutewise,
and The
Instrumentalist, and her arrangement of Eugene Damare's
Le Roitelet ("The
Wren Polka") for solo piccolo and band has enjoyed performances
across the U.S. and Europe.
Dr.
Beard earned her MM and DMA in flute performance from The University
of Texas at Austin (1998, 2003) where she was a student of Karl
F. Kraber. She joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska
at Omaha in 2002 where she teaches applied flute, chamber music,
and serves as Coordinator of Woodwind Studies. In 2003, she co-founded
the Nebraska Flute Club and continues to serve on its Board of
Directors, and also established the Heartland
Community Flute Choir in Omaha which has since been selected
to perform at two NMEA conferences. In her spare time, she serves as
the webmaster for PiccoloHQ.comand spends as many weekends as possible with her husband, Michael
R. Beard who is currently on the faculty at the University
of Akron (OH) as Visiting Assistant Professor/Assistant Director
of Bands. Her debut CD, Souvenirs: 21st Century Works for Piccolo
is scheduled to be released in 2008.
