Cynthia Nichols, Clarinet, is originally from the suburban Chicago area.
She holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the University
of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and a Masters Degree in Clarinet
Performance from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Before moving to Omaha in 1995, Cynthia was active in
the St. Louis metropolitan area as a teacher, performer, adjudicator
and clinician. Cynthia performed with the St. Louis Symphony as a substitute/extra
player and served on the faculties of the Parkway School District, the
St. Louis Symphony Community Music School, and Webster University.
Cynthia is in her eighth year as Artist Faculty/Instructor
of Clarinet at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she also teaches
Woodwind Pedagogy. She frequently serves as a clinician and adjudicates
high school solo and ensemble contests in Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri,
as well as state and district division collegiate solo wind competitions.
She has served on the Boards of both the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra
and the Nebraska Wind Symphony, and has performed with the Omaha and
Lincoln Symphonies, the Heartland of America Band at Offutt AFB as well
as with the Nebraska Wind Symphony and the Blackwoods Clarinet Choir.
Cynthia is an active soloist with both band and orchestra
ensembles at UNO as well as other school and community groups. Her professional
affiliations include Music Educators National Conference (MENC),
Nebraska Music Educators Association (NMEA), International Clarinet
Association (ICA) and the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) Local
70-558.
