The National Flute Association
- Flute society for the U.S.; largest flute society in the world! Holds annual conventions, competitions, and publishes a quarterly magazine.
- Founded in 2003, the NFC's goal is to "assist in the growth and development of flute players and flute music in the state of Nebraska." The NFC holds an annual festival, sponsors guest artist recitals and master classes, and more!
- Close enough to drive from Omaha! The KCFA regularly sponsors guest artist recitals and master classes with prominent flutists.

CONTEMPORARY
COMPOSERS
Although there are many fine composers in the world,
these are just some of my favorites...
- One of my closest friends from UT, who just also happens to be a great composer/percussionist as well!
- Ian's CD "...within..." is one of my all-time favorites! His compositional style blends contemporary extended techniques with rock, fusion, and popular music to create music which is modern but enjoyable both to listen as well as to play.
- Masterful orchestrator! Has written 2 compositions for flute: Voyage (fl/str) and Pied Piper Fantasy (flute concerto).
- Innovative flutist and composer; the "father" of extended techniques in flute-playing.
- Has won many awards from the National Flute Association for his flute compositions; his works are highly regarded in the flute community. His Sonata for flute and piano is considered a standard in the flute repertoire, and his Concerto for Piccolo, Op. 50 is probably the #1 concerto for piccolo afterthe Vivaldi concerti.
- Winner of the Prix de Rome (composition prize). Joined the faculty at UT in the late 1990's whie I was a grad student there. Wonderful person who writes very exciting, challenging music.
- Professor of Composition at UT/Austin and Director of the UT New Music Ensemble (in which I played principal flute from 1998-2002). Dan has composed several chamber works with flute, and he's a fabulous musician.
- Flutist/composer of extremely innovative works for all sizes of futes.
