Music Education
Music education is a major emphasis of the Department of Music. A comprehensive
curriculum leading toward a K-12 teaching certificate is offered to
students in all areas of music study. A unique team-taught emphasis
provides students with a diversity of hands- on teaching experiences,
techniques, and resources required for a successful career. Nationally
recognized clinicians and educators regularly conduct clinics and workshops
throughout the year offering advanced experiences in a broad spectrum
of teaching situations. A current Music Education Resource Center houses
a variety of materials for students use. The newly constructed Music
Technology Laboratory offers students hands- on experiences with the
latest technology in music education. A nationally recognized and award
winning collegiate chapter of the Music Educators National Conference
provides students additional exposure to national leaders and issues
related to music education.
Graduate music education students can structure their course of study
to reflect their individual interests. Flexibility is a major goal of
the graduate music program. The curriculum is set on a regular rotation
so students may complete their degree in a variety of timely options.
A student's curriculum may reflect either a thesis option or course
option depending on the student's focus and goals.
